The SEAL Program at RHS
Select Entry Accelerated Learning, starting in Year 7 2027. A dedicated pathway for like-minded students ready to learn at a deeper, faster pace.
What Is SEAL?
Richmond High School is excited to share that we will be offering a Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) program starting in Year 7 2027. The SEAL program will enhance the Richmond High School experience, allowing students to access the diversity and vibrancy of our progressive inner-city, co-educational school while learning in a class of like-minded peers.
From Years 7 to 10, SEAL students move through curriculum content at an accelerated pace, enabling deeper inquiry, creativity, and real-world application. By Year 10, SEAL students undertake at least two early-start VCE subjects, often three, building advanced study habits and preparing for a rich, varied, and ambitious VCE pathway and beyond.
They also have the option of taking university enhancement subjects in Year 12 through our partnership with the Centre for High Education Studies (CHES), the equivalent of a first year university subject. This provides the benefit of being able to undertake a broader selection of VCE studies and prepares students to achieve their maximum potential Tertiary Admissions Ranking (ATAR).
How SEAL Works
SEAL students undertake their core subjects of English, Maths and Science within their SEAL group, and the remainder of their classes alongside peers in the general and Enhanced Chinese Programs.
Years 7 to 10. Accelerated pace.
Students move through curriculum content faster than the standard pace, allowing for deeper inquiry, creativity, and real-world application across all core subjects.
Year 10. Accelerated VCE.
SEAL students undertake at least two early-start VCE subjects, often three, building advanced study habits ahead of Year 11 and 12.
Year 12. Room to Explore.
With core VCE credit already locked in from earlier years, Year 12 SEAL students have more time and flexibility, whether that means pursuing extracurriculars they’re passionate about, or taking up the option to start a university subject that genuinely interests them through our partnership with the Centre for High Education Studies (CHES). This broadens their VCE study and supports a stronger ATAR outcome.
Working alongside students from other classes for the remainder of their timetable helps SEAL students build friendships across whole year levels, adding to the camaraderie and support across Richmond High School.Want to see how the early-start VCE subjects work in more detail? To gain entry into the SEAL program, students must first attain the high benchmark measured by the ACER HAST test.
Step 1Apply to Richmond High School via the Year 6 to 7 Application Form, selecting RHS as first preference.Step 2Once offered a place at the school, students interested in SEAL become eligible to sit the HAST.Step 3Sit the HAST test onsite at Richmond High School in August.Step 4Short-listed students are invited in for an interview along with a parent or guardian.As per Department of Education guidelines, students must first be offered a place at the school through the standard application process before becoming eligible to sit the HAST for SEAL placement.
